Hidden Treasures

L3814 Hidden Treasures

Hidden Treasures, Lavenham, Suffolk. Ah, we can only imagine what 'hidden treasures' lie inside this antiques shop situated on Lavenham's High Street. A veritable antique itself, it is all that remains of a fifteenth century hall house that stood on this site. Formerly the north cross wing of the hall house, the building's frontage has two storeys and an attic evidence of the wealth of the original occupants, as is the decorative panelled relief work in the plaster, a unique feature of this area known as pargetting. Along with the nearby 'wool' towns of Clare and Long Melford, Lavenham flourished throughout the Middle Ages with the influx of weavers and wool dyers and many of the wealthy merchants houses remain. The gable, with its exposed timber frame is jettied and the first storey would originally have projected out too, but was underbuilt to house the two bow windows that make up the shop frontage some time during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Each figurine comes in its own colour branded gift box and dedicated deed card. Not a toy or children's product. Intended for adults only. Height: 6.5cm
